Dr. Linda Silverman

Linda Kreger Silverman, Ph.D.
Linda is a licensed psychologist who has been studying learning differences for over 40 years. She is a noted author, researcher and popular international speaker. Her Ph.D. is in special education from the University of Southern California. For nine years, she served on the faculty of the University of Denver in counseling psychology and special education. In 1979, Linda founded the Gifted Development Center, where more than 4,600 children have been assessed. In 1981, Linda coined the term “visual-spatial learner” and has been developing techniques, creating identification methods and improving teaching strategies for this population for 26 years. This information can be found in Upside-Down Brilliance: The Visual-Spatial Learner (Denver: DeLeon, 2002). She has spoken all over the world on this topic, including Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore. A special seminar was held on visual-spatial learners at Green College, Oxford University, in 2000. Linda has written over 300 articles, chapters and books related to gifted, learning disabled and other learners, including Counseling the Gifted & Talented (Love: 1993).

Steve Haas

Steve C. Haas, M.A., MPA

Steve joined the Visual-Spatial Learner Project in its infancy in 1992 and has served for the last several
years as the Project Director of the Visual-Spatial Identifier. Working with a large and diverse group of
professionals, he managed the development and validation of the Visual-Spatial Identifier, which teachers, counselors, parents, and students themselves can use to identify visual-spatial learners. Steve has presented on teaching strategies for visual-spatial learners to local, national and international audiences.

Penny Choice

Penny Choice, M.A. M. Ed.

Penny Choice, M.A., M.Ed., is Coordinator for Gifted Education and Fine Arts for Lake County Educational Services Division of the Regional Office of Education, Grayslake, IL. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Drama, a M.Ed. in Gifted Education and an M.A. in Educational Administration. Penny’s areas of expertise include curriculum development, staff development, gifted education, social science, problem-based learning, and fine arts education with a focus in integrating the arts and the use of process drama, a classroom, inquiry-based instructional tool. An international consultant, Penny has spoken extensively and conducted workshops for teachers, administrators, counselors, and parents since 1985. She has received numerous awards and is listed in several editions of Who’s Who including Who ’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Who’s Who in the World. On May 25, 2004, Penny was featured on the Jim Lehrer News Hour (Merrow Report) for PBS. In 2005 she represented the National Association for Gifted Children and the People to People Ambassador Program as a delegate to China. She will be joining another delegation to Egypt for NAGC and People to People in November, 2007. Dynamic and outgoing, Penny exemplifies her areas of expertise as she works with participants to explore new learning and growth.

Linda Leviton

Linda Powers Leviton, M.A. MFT

Linda directs the West Coast office of the Gifted Development Center, in Granada Hills, California. She is a licensed Marriage, Family and Child Therapist in private practice since 1996, specializing in gifted children and adults and visual-spatial learners of all ages.  A member of the Visual-Spatial Resource Access Team, Linda provides teacher in-services, parent workshops, email and phone consultation, guidance in school selection, observation and mediation, and support for visual-spatial learners and their families.  Linda Leviton and Linda Silverman have worked together since 1974. They co-authored "In Search of the Perfect Program," which serves as a basis for helping parents find appropriate educational environments for their children.

Allie Golon

Alexandra "Allie" Golon

Alexandra “Allie” Golon is a Master Teacher at Rocky Mountain School for the Gifted and Creative in Boulder, Colorado. As the former Director of the Visual-Spatial Resource, a founding member of the Access Team, and homeschooling parent to two exceptionally gifted visual-spatial learners, Allie brings a wealth of experience to her books, Raising Topsy-Turvy Kids: Successfully Parenting Your Visual-Spatial Child and If You Could See the Way I Think: A Handbook for Visual-Spatial Kids. Her latest book, The Visual-Spatial Classroom: Differentiation Strategies that Engage Every Learner, is a rich resource for teachers wishing to honor the right hemisphere of every student.

Allie has been invited to present on teaching and parenting visual-spatial learners at state, national and international venues. She has counseled dozens of families regarding various homeschooling issues and harmoniously parenting visual-spatial learners and has appeared on talk radio programs and in print media.
